Startup Weekend Women San Francisco #swwomensf Day1

I was asked to help an event called "Startup Weekend Women San Francisco" taking place this weekend. I will be helping as the timekeeper of the final presentation tomorrow :)

Startup Weekend Women SF

I've been to Startup Weekend in Tokyo, but this is my first time to join SW outside Japan. Also, this event is unique in that it focuses on women, so most of the participants are women, most of the coaches and judges are women.

Before starting, we had the dinner and mingling.

Red sweatshirt is for developers, black is designers, grey is non technical and blue is staffs. I liked this for several reasons: 1) it's very apparent who is developer, who is designer etc. We did events with tags, but they are small. With colored sweatshirts, it is very apparent. 2) For multiple-day events like Startup Weekend, T-shirts don't work, since you don't wear the same T-shirt for multiple days. Sweatshirts will work for multiple days.

Introduction of global & local sponsors

Startup Weekend Women SF

Speech by Amazon team, and speech by Mary Grove, Director of Global Entrepreneurship Outreach where she leads Google for Entrepreneurs.

Pitch time! Pitches were 60 seconds per person, no slides to be fair to everyone.  I was doing a photographer during the pitches while Sawako (photographer) was doing the timekeeper, so all the photos I took during the pitches are in the official camera now- might update with the photos later ;)
But the greatest thing here was that it was strongly encouraged to pitch, and among 90 or so participants, 41 of them pitched, among which 38 were women. Great job everyone :D

Then, everyone got 3 stickers and started to put them on the ideas that they liked. This was also a chance for members to ask questions to each other about their proposals.
